The Ambulance, God’s Mercy Plan

Have you ever wondered who created you? What is the purpose of your life?  These questions can be philosophical and challenging to answer on our own.   We leave it up to our society and community to respond and fill in the blank for us.  Most answer these two questions through our own eyes and through the works we do in our community and society but few answer it through the eyes of the creator who made us.  If the reason for our creation is answered by you alone, there is a kind of finite reason and nothing more.  Is the purpose of your life is to serve yourself and maybe those around you?  What happens when you leave this world and along with others?  Does it mean your purpose is over? No, you exist because God formed you into existence.  If God is infinite, his creation will last beyond this world we live.

Christ’s love for us is so infinite; it is hard for us to imagine that he loves us more than we love ourselves or our own family.  He desires for us to be with him all the time, to talk to him, to be a part of our daily life.  When we are hurt, he wants to be there to protect and heal us.  This year, many of us have cried out for help for mental and physical healing.  God hears our cries and sent out his ambulances to us, his mercy he freely gives, blaring the sirens, letting us know he is coming to save us, but the sirens of the ambulance become muted out, blending in with all the other noises in our lives.  Soon the siren’s sound gets fainter and fainter and slowly fades into the distance because we no longer recognize or believe that the ambulance is for us but someone else.   If the ambulance arrived at our front door, we simply would tell the EMT (God’s Angels and Saints), oh, it is nothing, just a false alarm, I don’t need to go with you.  I can handle it on my own.  If anything happens, there is someone who can do CPR.  I got it. It is not worth the price of paying for the ambulance ride through my insurance.  We say to ourselves, “that was a close one.”  “We’ve got this covered.”

A majority of our culture sees this narrative. It is heartbreaking knowing that healing is readily available when Christ opened the door to his Divine Mercy. All we have to do is just believe and say yes, Jesus, I trust in you.  The reward of eternal life is far greater than the little ambulance ride we have to put upfront.  Let us live our day trusting in God’s mercy and be ready when we see God’s ambulance come to our house.  Be alert, willing, and trust in God’s timing and infinite love for us.  His love gives us purpose and meaning to our existence.
